What hardware will I need to get started with RapidConnect?
The RapidConnect Desktop Kit is the easiest and most affordable way to start working with Zigbee devices. Using one of these kits and the accompanying desktop software (which can be downloaded for free from our website), you can can accomplish the following within minutes:
Form a Zigbee network using one of the USB Sticks as the Network Coordinator
Simulate a Zigbee device with the second device
Send commands wirelessly to read and write attributes
Join a Zigbee certified device like a light bulb to your network and control it wirelessly. (Note: for Smart Energy networks, you will need sample devices with Test certificates. Send an email to info@mmbnetworks.com to learn more.
If you'd like to jump right in to the hardware and firmware development process, we recommend purchasing a RapidConnect Development Kit. In addition to providing two RapidConnect USB Sticks and enabling the same steps mentioned above, the RapidConnect Development Kit also includes the following:
RapidConnect Modules - the hardware that will eventually be mounted inside your device
RapidConnect Development Boards, which are ideal for prototyping and testing activities. The RapidConnect Development Board consists of a RapidConnect Module mounted on a daughterboard provide a USB connection plus easy access to the module pins for power, UART, and other functions that may be available in custom firmware builds like RapidConnect Lighting.
MMB recommends purchasing a RapidConnect Programming Fixture (available here) to provide an easy way to reprogram modules before mounting them on your hardware.
Lastly, the ISA3 adapter can be useful for RF testing and generating network captures. See our tutorial here for more information.
