Is there a way to force a device to start an OTA upgrade, without waiting for it to automatically poll the OTA Server?

If you have devices joined on the network and you upload an OTA file to the OTA Server, the devices on the network will eventually poll on their own and find that the OTA Server has a new image for them. This typically takes 5 to 15 minutes. We recommend letting devices discover the OTA update on their own; however, if you don't want to wait, there are a couple of options:

  1. You can remove the device from the network and rejoin it - after a rejoin, a device will automatically search for new OTA updates.
  2. You can force the Query Next Image Request from the device side (which kicks off the OTA upgrade process), by sending an Image Notify from the coordinator side. For example, using RapidHA Desktop, from the ZCL Message tab, send out a custom ZCL message as follows:
    1. Message type: Unicast (if you want to target one device; must specify the Destination Address of the targeted device) or Broadcast (if you want to target all devices on the network)
    2. Cluster ID: 0x0019 (OTA Upgrade cluster)
    3. Frame control: Cluster specific, Server-to-Client
    4. Command ID: 0x00 (Image Notify)
    5. Payload: 00 00
